There has been a long history of business and commerce in and around the village, dating back to the brickworks and iron foundry during Victorian times. Please refer to Businesses of the Past for more information.

Today, Rowland’s Castle is currently home to a large number of thriving businesses, in the village and on the Stansted Estate. So many in fact, that they have been divided into four categories – Shops (on this page), Hospitality, Services and Stansted Businesses.

Home Hardware

Rowlands Castle Home Hardware

Home Hardware is a family run business with over 50 years’ experience. The Winnicott family set up their building company, RJ Winnicott Ltd, in 1904, and as it grew, moved their offices to Rowlands Castle in 1975. They built this hardware shop in 1976, having started trading in 1966, out of converted cow sheds on the same site. In 1991 a second hardware shop in Emsworth was added to the business, a third in Romsey in 2000 and in 2006, the fourth in Alton. In 2011 the 3 shops in Midhurst, Petworth and Billingshurst were added.

The family take great pride in providing a modern yet traditional retail outlet in the village. Being part of the Home Hardware group enables them to strengthen their purchasing power, which in turn gives greater value to the customer. The friendly and experienced staff of 12 (5 villagers) have excellent product knowledge to assist you with their 15,000 stock lines and are happy to order items they do not have in stock. They also offer a local delivery service.

The store is also home to a branch of the Post Office, offering all the usual facilities. Website: Local Home Hardware
