Early Settlements
This dissertation by Shaun Goddard, submitted in 1994 as part of his Bachelor’s Degree, is included on our website with permission of his family. Entitled “The Rural Settlement of Early Landscapes”, it looks at the evolution of landscape in the areas of Chalton, Old Idsworth and Rowlands Castle.
Shaun’s dissertation focuses on the interaction between land use and settlement from pre-history until 1600, using analysis of archaeological reports from the area, as well as aerial photos.
