Painting Society

Rowlands Castle Painting Society is a friendly painting group which meets on Tuesdays in the Parish Hall.

The group holds life/portrait drawing and workshop afternoons and evening demonstrations by visiting artists. Sometimes an extra curriculum Saturday workshop for a limited number of participants, is arranged with an experienced/professional artist. During the warmer months of the year pleasant picnic/painting days out at various locations around the area take place. Other events include: an annual awards evening: a weekend exhibition to showcase the work of members: and an enjoyable Christmas party in December.

The Rowlands Castle Painting Society programme runs from October until September. As a local voluntary organisation, the Society would not be able to function without a committee and the help of our valued volunteers.

Last year the membership was around 100 – both local residents and anyone who is interested in improving their painting skills. The annual membership fee for joining the society is currently £30. This fee covers everything in the programme, including the visiting artists demonstrations which can be quite costly. Non-members are also welcomed to come along to any of the meetings.

The Society would like to invite anyone interested in painting or drawing to come along and join like-minded people to experience watching, learning and taking part in a very enjoyable hobby. The Society welcomes new members of any ability to join the group. The comprehensive programme is compiled with the intention that something of interest will appeal to the individual members of Rowlands Castle Painting Society.

History

2020 sees us celebrating our 50th year. The Society was founded in 1970 by Mr Jennings Wood who lived in Rowlands Castle. Mr Wood was an artist from an early age and thought everyone should have the opportunity to paint. Painting/picnic days out and exhibitions were on the programme from the early days. The Society then met every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. We now meet weekly with alternate Tuesdays holding workshops and life/portrait drawing.

We hold drawing/workshop afternoons and evening demonstrations, fees for this are mentioned on the website. Should anyone then decide they would like to join as a member this fee is deducted from the annual membership cost.
