Scarecrow Trail

Rowlands Castle Scarecrow Trail, organised annually in Autumn by the Parent Teacher Association [PTA] to raise money for St John’s Primary School, began in 2020.   School children, families and any other creative members of the community design and make scarecrows and display them in their front gardens. The designs are based on a theme – these range from film characters to favourite fairy tales and children’s TV characters.  Villagers and visitors are invited to walk around the village to see the wonderful scarecrow creations.  Maps of a suggested walking route are sold online, or in local shops with all the money going directly towards PTA-funded projects at the school. Visitors get the chance to vote for their favourite scarecrows in three categories with the winners each receiving a prize. Everybody can get involved and local businesses sponsor the event in different ways. This inspirational idea has been very well received with participants enjoying a truly family friendly event.
